Topic: Live Cell Fluorescence Imaging of Cell Signaling and Metabolism on Cell-Mg-Implant Interfaces and in Cancer Cells

Yusuf, from the Medizinische Universität Graz, is currently a visiting researcher in Prof. Xiaokun Shu’s laboratory at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Based in the Smith Cardiovascular Research Building, his research focuses on engineering next generation genetically encoded biosensors to monitor the activity of key metabolic kinases.

His work utilizes SPARK technology, which was invented in the Shu Lab. This approach leverages phase separation to visualize kinase activation with a high dynamic range and a straightforward signal pattern. He is grateful for the opportunity to engage with the high caliber molecular research being conducted at UCSF, and outside the lab, Yusuf is enjoying discovering the city and exploring San Francisco’s diverse culinary scene.
