Host: New Yor University (NYU)
Topic: DNA - Organic Nano-structures and Devices

Virág is currently completing an internship with the Canary Laboratory at New York University in New York City. She is assisting with research in the area of organic synthesis. The laboratory works in the field of DNA nanotechnology, where their main focus is on using DNA as an engineering material rather than a genetic material. By designing certain strands, DNA is capable of self-assembling into three-dimensional crystals, opening up the possibility of creating all kinds of shapes and structures. The project she is assisting with focuses on creating metal-mediated DNA strands, increasing their conductivity, in the hopes of a breakthrough in carbon computing.

Working in the laboratory has been an amazing experience so far. She has the opportunity to learn so much, and is surrounded by extremely knowledgeable people all the time. NYU also provides her with the option to attend seminars of visiting speakers, where she can further broaden her knowledge about the field she is working in.

Staying in New York City has also been a delight; the city is incredibly inspiring and full of opportunities to meet all kinds of amazing people and make new memories!
