International Symposium on Cultural Tourism
On June 29–30, 2026, the International Symposium on Cultural Tourism will take place at the University of Innsbruck!
Set in the historic Kaiser Leopold Hall, the symposium provides a platform to discuss the evolving role of cultural tourism in a rapidly changing global environment.
A transatlantic dialogue on tourism and transformation
The symposium is organized in the spirit of transatlantic cooperation and aims to foster interdisciplinary perspectives on tourism as a driver of cultural understanding, economic development, and societal transformation. In addition to academic contributions, the program emphasizes practical insights and exchange between research and practice.
A particular highlight of the symposium is its international and transatlantic speaker line‑up, featuring renowned experts from public institutions, academia, and the tourism sector, including the keynote speakers:
Joe Pine, Author of The Experience Economy and The Transformation Economy
Billy Nungesser, Lieutenant Governor of the State of Louisiana
Mark Romig, Senior Advisor, New Orleans and Comapny
On June 30 our Excecutive Director Karin Emprechtinger is addressing current trends in International Education Programs and Partnerships, together with Hermann Agis, Günter Bischof, Michael Burri and Franz-Stefan Meissel.
Supporting early‑career researchers and networking
In addition to keynote lectures and panel discussions, the symposium places a strong emphasis on networking and community‑building.
A dedicated PhD poster session offers early‑career researchers the opportunity to present their work, receive feedback, and connect with international peers and senior scholars.
Participants are invited not only to share research results but also to engage in informal exchange and build long‑term professional relationships!
