A New Kind of Technical University

Based in Linz, Upper Austria, IT:U was established as a public university in 2022 and began full academic operations in 2024.
It was created with a distinctive mandate: to take a deeply interdisciplinary approach to digital sciences, combining computer science with perspectives from the natural sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities.
English is the university’s working language, underscoring its international orientation from the outset.

Learning Through Collaboration and Practice

IT:U’s educational model places strong emphasis on project‑based and research‑led learning.
Students work in small, interdisciplinary teams within so‑called LearnLabs, where theory and application are closely intertwined from the very beginning of their studies. Academic programs currently focus on interdisciplinary master’s and PhD education, with digital skills serving as a shared foundation across all fields.

Close cooperation with societal, cultural, and industrial partners is another defining feature of IT:U.

A Strong Match for Transatlantic Exchange

The partnership between the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation and IT:U is rooted in shared values:
Excellence in science and engineering, openness to international collaboration, and a commitment to shaping the future responsibly.

As a technical university with an explicitly global outlook, IT:U offers an exciting environment for transatlantic research stays and academic exchange in rapidly evolving fields such as AI, data science, and digital transformation.

We are proud to welcome IT:U – Interdisciplinary Transformation University Austria to the community of Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation Partner Universities. We look forward to many inspiring research projects, innovative exchange initiatives, and meaningful connections that will emerge from this collaboration.

Welcome to the network!
