Topic: Monitoring RNA-templated bioorthogonal ligation and bond-cleavage reactions

Hi! I’m Andreas Löffler, a PhD student at TU Wien, currently spending five months in the Carlson Lab at the Center for Systems Biology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.

At CSB, my research project focuses on developing molecular tools that combine antisense technology with bioorthogonal chemistry to leverage the high specificity of antisense oligonucleotides and the versatile potential of bioorthogonal reactions, such as ligation and bond-cleavage, with emphasis on studying the underlying processes in real time and enable the tracking and quantification of a target RNA sequence.

Working in this highly interdisciplinary environment is incredibly inspiring, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with leading researchers in this field. Outside the lab, I’m enjoying life in Cambridge and exploring the rich academic and cultural environment of the Boston area. I’m grateful for the support of the Marshall Plan Scholarship, which made this stay possible.
