Open Call: Berkeley-Austria Exchange Program 2026/27

The Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation supports cooperation between Austria and the United States through research and teaching projects relating to the U.S. in economics and the social sciences. This may also include projects in other academic areas as long as they address problems of the social- and economic sciences.

In this context, the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation invites applications projects of scientific cooperation with the University of California, Berkeley for the academic year 2026/27, coordinated by the Institute of European Studies at UC Berkeley:

2 PhD students for a duration of three months and a stipend of $ 6.000. Students will be required to pay the $1,000 VSPA University Services fee to acquire Visiting Student Researcher status at UC Berkeley.

The time frame for the stay at Berkeley can be chosen freely between September 2026 and June 2027. However, applicants need to be aware that it takes up to 6 months to obtain an F1-visa and should plan their arrival date and stay accordingly. In addition, they need to ensure that for the entire duration of their stay at Berkeley they remain officially enrolled at their home university. The Institute of European Studies will lend the necessary support on campus and will furnish office space to the best of its ability.

Application materials and an invitation by a contact at the University of California, Berkeley must be received by February 28, 2026.
