From Vienna to White House: Yoichi Okamoto

At the invitation of the Austrian National Library and the Diplomatic Academy American and Austrian scholars will discuss the legacy of Yoichi Okamoto and the Power of Images in Austrian – American Relations on February 29, 2024 at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna.

Following the Austrian National Library‘s exhibition „IMAGE POWER POLITICS. Yoichi Okamoto. Post-war photography icon,“ an international conference with high level experts will focus on the life and career of the American photographer Yoichi R. Okamoto, who portrayed post-war Austria and revolutionized American Presidential photography as White House photographer during the Lyndon B. Johnson era.

The Academic Symposium will be followed by a Round Table with panelists and invited guests. Austrian and American experts will discuss the legacy and impact of the early Postwar Years in Austrian - American relations as well as the current situation in the light of upcoming elections in the U.S., the EU and Austria.
