Dr. Daniel S. Hamilton is the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation Professor and Director of the Center for Transatlantic Relations at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). He also serves as the Executive Director of the American Consortium on EU Studies. He has taught at the University of Innsbruck, the Free University Berlin and the Hertie School of Governance. Dr. Hamilton is a former senior U.S. diplomat, serving as U.S. Coordinator for Southeast European Stabilization; Deputy Assistant Secretary of State; Associate Director of the Policy Planning Staff for two U.S. Secretaries of State; and Director for Policy for the Bureau of European Affairs.


Selected recent publications include The Geopolitics of TTIP; Open Ukraine; Unfinished Business: The Western Balkans and the International Community; The Transatlantic Economy 2014; and Shoulder to Shoulder: Forging a Strategic U.S. - EU Partnership.

He received a Ph.D. and M.A. from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, an honorary doctorate from Concordia College and his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University.
