<p><strong><em>Marshall Plan Scholarship Program (MPS) zwischen USA und &Ouml;sterreich angelaufen! </em></strong></p>
<p>Ein neues Stipendienprogramm unterst&uuml;tzt den wissenschaftlichen Austausch von Studierenden aus &Ouml;sterreich und den USA. Der US-Botschafter in &Ouml;sterreich, David Franklin Girard-diCarlo, und Ex-Finanzminister Ferdinand Lacina, Pr&auml;sident der Marshallplan-Jubil&auml;umsstiftung, haben am Donnerstag, den 25. September 2008&nbsp;in Wien das neue Marshall Plan Scholarship Program (MPS) vorgestellt. 1000 Studenten aus den USA und &Ouml;sterreich sollen damit in den n&auml;chsten zehn Jahren bei einem Studienaufenthalt im Ausland unterst&uuml;tzt werden.</p>

<p>Gew&auml;hrt werden Stipendien zwischen 3.000 und 10.000 Euro f&uuml;r drei-bis f&uuml;nfmonatige Aufenthalte an einer Gastuniversit&auml;t oder Fachhochschule (FH) des jeweils anderen Landes, wobei die Bearbeitung eines Forschungsthemas vorgesehen ist. Die Antragstellung erfolgt &uuml;ber die jeweilige Universit&auml;t/FH. Voraussetzung ist ein technisches Studium an einer &ouml;sterreichischen oder amerikanischen Universit&auml;t/FH, sowie eine au&szlig;erordentliche Studienleistung.</p>

<p>Das Austauschprogramm soll Studenten erm&ouml;glichen nach dem Studienaufenthalt mit einer "erweiterten Perspektive" und "neuem Respekt f&uuml;r verschiedene Ansichten" in ihr Heimatland zur&uuml;ckzukehren, sagte Girard-diCarlo. Von einer "gro&szlig;en Bedeutung f&uuml;r den Wissenstransfer" und "Fortschritt auf dem Gebiet Technik und Managementtechnik" sprach Lacina im Zusammenhang mit dem Marshall-Plan Programm. Viele Gelder w&uuml;rden heute noch &ouml;sterreichischen Unternehmen zur Verf&uuml;gung stehen.</p>
<p><strong>Hintergrund: </strong></p>
<p>Im Jahr 2007 unterfertigten die damalige US Botschafterin Susan McCaw und Bundesminister Martin Bartenstein eine Absichtserkl&auml;rung (<em>Memorandum of Understanding</em>) &uuml;ber ein bilaterales Austauschprogramm, um die wissenschaftliche Kooperation zwischen den beiden L&auml;ndern weiter zu vertiefen. &Uuml;ber einen Zeitraum von 10 Jahren sollen im Rahmen des <strong><em>Marshall Plan Scholarship Program </em></strong>1000 neue Stipendien an Studierende technischer Studienrichtungen und Fachhochschulen aus den USA und &Ouml;sterreich vergeben werden.</p>
